DUMBO Brooklyn

Despite the fact that I grew up forty minutes from the city and now go to college a short train ride to Grand Central, I rarely go to Brooklyn.  Typically, I go to Manhattan a few times a month.  Brooklyn, on the other hand, I don’t spend as much time in.  One thing that I’ve always wanted to do is walk across the Brooklyn Bridge (yes, I know how touristy that sounds).  So, a few friends and I took a trip downtown to the pedestrian entrance of the bridge.  Despite the fact that is was very misty outside, it was still a ton of fun.

After walking across the bridge, we went over to DUMBO.  I love this neighborhood in particular because it’s very artsy.  Of course, we had to stop by Water Street to take a picture at the iconic viewing spot of the Manhattan Bridge (featured as Dan Humphrey’s apartment in Gossip Girl).  After a few pictures and almost getting run over by angry New York drivers, we went over to the Front General Store for a little thrift shopping.  If you love thrift shopping then you should definitely check out this store.  Though it is a little pricy, everything that the Front General Store has is so cute and timeless.  On our way over to the Front General Store we found this super cute mural under the Manhattan Bridge that said “kiss here.”  Of course, my friend and I decided to stop and snap a cute pic in front of it.  Afterwards, we stopped by One Girl Cookies on Main Street for a quick caffeine pick-me-up.  To end the day on a fun note, we took a bit of a detour uptown to a friend of mine’s apartment to enjoy a view of the city.

Though the weather wasn’t really on our side because of the rain, it was actually pretty warm out this day.  I decided to take advantage of the warmer weather and wear my favorite denim A-line button up skirt from Madewell.  Usually I find myself reaching for more soft, feminine pieces, however, I love the retro style of this skirt.  When I purchased it, I was a little hesitant considering it was a little out of my comfort zone.  After styling this skirt, I’m now completely obsessed with the button-up and A-line skirt trends.  To keep the skirt the focus of my outfit, I wore a simple long sleeve black tee shirt from Brandy Melville.  Even though it was in the high 50’s this day, I decided to wear an oatmeal colored blanket scarf in case I got a little chilly.  Towards the end of the day, the weather cooled down a bit so I threw on my light pink BDG cardigan from Urban Outfitters.  For my purse, I brought my favorite transport tote from Madewell.

That’s all for today’s post!  Be sure to subscribe for post updates!

Xoxo,

Jessica
