If you’re looking for an adventure beyond anything you could imagine, then Interlaken, Switzerland is your place. Known as the adventure capital of the world, this small alpine town offers everything from snow sports to skydiving to hiking to hang-gliding. Out of all the trips I have ever done, nothing has compared to Switzerland. What I loved most about this trip was that it was a break from the typical sight-seeing and city trips. I spent the weekend making chocolate, flying through the sky, taking in the beautiful views of the Alps, and just embracing life.
If you’re a study abroad student then you most definitely have heard of the different tour companies geared towards college students. For my trip to Switzerland, I went with a company called Smart Trip. I absolutely love the people at Smart Trip. My first weekend getaway with them was back in October when I went down to the Amalfi Coast. The people at Smart Trip are so so nice and fun! All the guides I’ve had have been amazing and the best part is that they’re all recent college grads. The whole weekend is geared towards things that people in college would actually want to do which makes the experience so much better. They help plan bar crawls, fun dinners, and so much more. I’m so happy that I got the chance to go to Switzerland with Smart Trip, they definitely made my weekend so incredible!
The activities I planned for my weekend in Switzerland were chocolate making, hang-gliding, and day trip to the capital Bern, and trip to Lake Brienz. If you’re deciding between hang-gliding and paragliding, I would reccomend hang-gliding. Paragliding is where you’re basically sitting in a seat with a parachute attached to you, so it feels like you’re floating through the air. Hang-gliding is the closest to flying. You’re strapped into a harness and laying down so it’s as though you’re literally superman flying through the sky. I didn’t know what to expect before I went so I wasn’t sure if I should be terrified, nervous or what. It’s actually a really peaceful experience! It feels like you’re gliding slowly through the air (when you’re actually going pretty fast). Being up there in the sky makes you feel like you can do anything, like nothing can get to you.
I did my chocolate making class at the Funky Chocolate Club (props to them for the amazing name amiright haha!). My friends and I headed over there a little early to try their infamous hot chocolate and let me tell you it absolutely lived up to the reviews. This was hands down the best, most chocolatey, richest hot chocolate I have ever head in my life. And the best part about it? They serve it with an adorable Swiss flag on top! The chocolate making class was so much fun. It was about an hour and a half long and we got to learn so much about the chocolate-making process. I think I ate my weight times a million in dark chocolate during the class too haha! You get to choose what kind of chocolate you want to make and the teacher shows you how to make three different bars, all of which you get to decorate to your liking. You have to wait around an hour and a half for the chocolate bars to cool in the fridge before you can take it with you. The chocolate I made was hands down the best chocolate I’ve ever had in my life!
